About the host
Chris was born in Phrae and has always felt a deep sense of belonging to Na Laem Nuea, a community where craftsmanship is an integral part of its history and daily life. After living in Bangkok for more than 30 years and working in tourism, she returned to her hometown with the intention of reviving and keeping this heritage alive.
Inspired by this, upon her return she opened Na Laem Nuea Clay House, a living museum where bamboo, clay, and wood tell part of the community’s story. Chris leads this project alongside artisans and elders from the village, who preserve the knowledge and techniques passed down through generations.

Why have this experience in Phrae?
In Phrae Province, in northern Thailand, Na Laem Nuea is a small community where bamboo is an integral part of daily life and traditional craftsmanship. For generations, its residents have worked with this material to create useful, everyday objects, including the “khub lorn,” the traditional bamboo hat associated with the lives of northern farmers. Here, this knowledge continues to be passed down from one generation to the next.
It is in this community that Na Laem Nuea Clay House is located—a space created to preserve and share this heritage. Visiting it offers an opportunity to see another side of Phrae, meet its artisans, and discover how a material as simple as bamboo can be and tell a part of the story and identity of northern Thailand.
