When you arrive at Na Laem Nuea Clay House, a living museum of the community’s traditional crafts, you’ll be welcomed by Chris and the local artisans. Next, you’ll learn about the history of bamboo weaving and some techniques passed down through generations. You’ll also learn about the “khub lorn,” a traditional bamboo hat that is a cultural symbol of the region.
Afterward, you’ll work alongside a craftsman to learn how to weave bamboo and form the base of the hat. During the workshop, you’ll have the chance to talk with Chris about the history of the place and his work to keep this knowledge alive.
To wrap things up, you'll receive a hat made by local artisans, which you can decorate however you like and take home with you. The experience ends with lunch and dessert prepared using healthy, local recipes.

Chris was born in Phrae and has always felt a deep sense of belonging to Na Laem Nuea, a community where craftsmanship is an integral part of its history and daily life. After living in Bangkok for more than 30 years and working in tourism, she returned to her hometown with the intention of reviving and keeping this heritage alive.
Inspired by this, upon her return she opened Na Laem Nuea Clay House, a living museum where bamboo, clay, and wood tell part of the community’s story. Chris leads this project alongside artisans and elders from the village, who preserve the knowledge and techniques passed down through generations.
Today, her experience in tourism comes together with the experience of the artisans to welcome visitors from around the world and share the stories, skills, and traditions that continue to shape Na Laem Nuea.
